A movie director is generally chosen by the producer of the movie. The producer is the highest authority in the movie. He produces the movie i.e. he finances the movie. He gets the story for the movie and chooses an appropriate director who he thinks would supervise the movie production effectively. In turn, the director is answerable to the producer. Once the script has been handed over to the director, it is the job of the director to make sure all the aspects of the movie are properly coordinated.
The director of a movie decides all the aspects of the movie. He decides the tone of the movie, the scene sequences, the action sequences, music sequences, and delivers what the audience expects from the movie. This is, in short, the job of a movie director. The movie director, in the beginning, hires a crew for the movie. He delegates people to different aspects of the movie, for example, music, fights, makeup, etc. The team selected by the director decides the success of a movie to a great extent. It is in this fact that the secret of a successful director lies. A director, who is able to hire an efficient crew of workers and manages to make them work to their full potential, will definitely taste success. The movie director further supervises every scene of the movie, looking at it critically, making corrections wherever necessary, with respect to camera angles, lighting, actors' movements, etc. If the director is satisfied, he approves the scene and the making of the movie goes on. Otherwise the scene is repeated. This process is repeated throughout the making of the movie. In the end, the director views the entire film and checks it for proper synchronization and the chance for any errors that might have been overlooked. Once this is done, the director's job is complete and the movie is released.
